Town, Tom, Tivoli

Yeah for our Chinese lunch.
Double yeah for the ice cream cones at Tivoli.
The gardens are putting on their summer finery.
These beautiful office buildings have been going up across the street from Tivoli since we arrived.  They will definitely be a new landmark for the city.

5th Sunday Mix and Mingle

This is the first Mix and Mingle we have experienced at the Gladsaxe II Ward.  It was following a combined meeting on "If you have felt the Holy Ghost, do you feel so now ."  It was a subject carry over from Sacrament Meeting on The Holy Ghost."
The couches from the dance party (which they got for free if they would come and  pick them up) worked well here too.
Make-your-own-schwarma was a perfect menu for the High Priests who were in charge.
The day was warm, so sitting out under the trees by the church was lovely.

Our Memorial Day in Denmark

We didn't visit any graves, but we went to a great High Priests' Party at Sven Age and  Dorte Andersen's.  It was the Frederiksberg Ward, but we are invited to  their parties as well as those in Gladsaxe II.  So of course, we go.

Svenge Age showed us pictures of Peter O. Hansen's grave in.....Manti.  He translated the Book of Mormon into Danish, which was the first foreign language it was translated  into.  It was great to hear a little about his history and the beginning of the church here in Denmark.  After several missions to Denmark, he settled in Manti.
 Good company.
 Good food

Super Stake Shindig

The Generations Dance Party that has been advertised for months was held tonight and it was fabulous!  Over 450 signed up.
There was something for the "watchers"..
 Excellent h'orderves  and "mixed"drinks,
And terrific dancing to a live band.  Every half hour they moved to a different decade of music.

The plan was to go to disc jockeys after the band.  One was assigned for 1 a.m.  Needless to say we were home, long before that after a 12 hour day at the temple.

Goals and Glimpses

We can only get glimpses of what is going on on "Temple Square" with all the trees out in leaf.

But at  the temple tonight, it was so fun to get glimpses into peoples' lives.

A missionary we knew in the MTC, from Germany,Fabian Muller, came with his parents who have been called as temple workers here.  He is getting married in August . Presently his fiance is in Nepal teaching at an Orphanage.  They are from the same town in Germany, but  met in Singapore, where he was working, to propose.

Another sister came who is visiting her brother in Germany.  She is from California, but she and her husband are in  Beijing for three years with his company.  There are three ex-pat branches and two total Chinese branches of the church there.  They cannot associate with each other because of government regulations even though they meet in the same building.  She said the Chinese branches are strong and the whole branch flies to the temple together.

And as for goals, an 80-something gentlemen was here with his son on a temple tour of Europe.  They have already been to Madrid, Switzerland, The Hague, and Denmark.  They will go on to Stockholm, Finland and Kiev.and then fly to Washington DC and back to California stopping in Kansas and the Provo Temples.  Copenhagen was his 95th temple!

Privacy

These two girls, no doubt, thought they were sun bathing very privately.  But as in most cases, there is always someone watching,...Heaven for sure.
I doubt they knew each other was there.

Amber Party

Amber is one of the specialties of the Baltic Sea Region. It is ancient tree sap that has been turned to stone over thousands of years.  It can be mined, but also found on beaches after a storm has churned it up.
Irma Warnsdorf has quite a collection she bought from an Amber store  on Stroget when the owner died.  We had a great time admiring and buying....
The color ranges from yellow to brown. It is usually transparent and very light weight.

Swans, 2016

The swans on the lake have hatched!  I biked down today and they were kind enough to come up close for a publicity shot...
Mom and Dad were keeping them pretty close.
" Everybody stay close to Mom."

Green

Suddenly the world is green again.  Frederiksberg has been very good to keep trees, if not grass, in the environment.  Today as I came home from church, I couldn't believe how big the trees are getting on the Temple Square and even on our street.  One will soon be as tall as our fourth floor.

Lovely day, I didn't even need a sweater for church,

Week's End

The Swedish Saints and workers come en masse every 4 weeks.  Today we had 20 sisters ready to work and about 16 men. Nils and Seija Bengstsson are our coordinators on these days and do a great job keeping everyone busy.
We had three or four groups of tourists and one couple were able to take two of their ancestors from baptism thru endowments today.  The new change in the initiatory is wonderful and really facilitates things.
We and the temple missionaries took a break and went downtown to the Chinese buffet.

Always lots going on at the Radhus Plaza
And The Stroget is always busy.

Frederiksberg Have

Frederiksberg Park is the center of Frederiksberg.  It covers many blocks and the zoo is in the middle of it.  Unfortunately  for me, it is only a walking park, no bike riding allowed.  However, I did walk through it on our way to the Garden show.  Everywhere you look there are beautiful vistas and focal points.

With so much close apartment living, all the green space is so refreshing and well used by the populace.

Pacifier Tree

.This Pacifier Tree in Frederiksberg Park seems to be the final resting place for all those pacifiers you are "too big for."

Some apparently had quite a collection.

Home and Garden Show

Trudy Larsen and I went to the Annual Home and Garden Expo at the Frederiksberg Gardens.  It was  fun and beautiful.  The tents and goods were in  among the flowers and planned garden areas.
There was so much to look at. Lots of hand made arts and crafts.  Here are just a sampling of what  caught our attention.
Wood. All of these and the bike too are made out of wood.  WE also saw wooden hairbows and bowties..
These darling hanging decorations were made of of anything little and strung together between beads. I will definitely be doing this.  We bought a few segments to get started with.
These chairs were so eye-catching and fun.
We could have used more time, but needed to get back to go to work at the temple.  Just as well, no doubt saved money.

A Bit of History

As World War II was winding down, the Allies decided to take out the Gestapo Building in Copenhagen.  The only problem was that there were Danish Prisoners of War on the top floor.  Careful plans were made and they figured they had the capability to come in through the side and save those on the top floor. . Unfortunately, one plane crashed during the early part of the mission into a Catholic Elementary School.  Subsequent planes thought the smoke was from the original target area and continued to bomb it.  It was a tragic accident, but the parents and those involved were very kind and forgiving. Only two of the prisoners died, and the Gestapo was completely destroyed.

I have been looking for the monument and found it today on Frederiksberg Alle where the school originally stood.

Spring out the Back Door

We have a little garden in the back which is so refreshing and lovely this time of year.  It is our one li patch of grass for blocks.

Yes, we keep good track of our neighbors to the right.  I could actually hear the lady in the next apartment talking on the phone,... and the lady she was talking to.....

Dinner at Irma's

Dinner at Irma and Jorgen Warnsdorfs is always lovely.  She has beautiful Royal Copenhagen China with all of the unique accessory pieces.

We were a small group  as Manwarings are in Sweden for the weekend and Mordues have children visiting.
These orchids were spectacular!
