The Berlin Wall

One of our main interests in Berlin was to see The Wall and everything about it.  They have an excellent Wall Memorial that runs along the wall path with interesting facts and stories.  The wall is marked through the city with a double cobblestone line in the pavement and roads.

The wall was 4 meters high, extended 155 kilometers, dissected 55 streets and possessed 293 observation towers and 57 bunkers. They have only preserved 1.4 kilometers as part of the Memorial.
 Check Point Charley was
gate C connecting  East and West Berlin.

There was a crazy museum right here with artifacts and stories of those who tried to cross the wall.  Many succeeded in suitcases, car engines, tunnels, etc.

  1. I want to go to Berlin and see this now - maybe our next trip to Europe in twenty years.
