Major Adventuring

I have tried several times to put together an outing to Dyrehaven which is up the coast in Klampenborg.  Today I finally biked there and wandered and looked to my heart's content.  There was so much it will take a couple of days' blogs to not get burdensome.
I took the bike path to Mindenlunden and then joined Strandvejen which goes up the coast.
This is the bike path alongside the road.  It was fabulous to bike and look at the great scenery.
I like the grassy areas that you can use as well as the beaches.

On the way back I was on the house side, some pretty fabulous homes..
The saddest part of the trip was that the odometer on my bike stopped working.  However, I figure I biked about 35 kilometers, somewhere around 20 miles. I may not be able to move tomorrow.

Farewell Dinner

We had a farewell dinner tonight for Pam and George Hoge.  We will miss them.  Not only have they been fabulous workers at the temple, but they have renewed and reactivated people they knew when they were here 10 years ago.  They give and get love wherever they go.
We had the traditional fleskasteg with red cabbage, potatoes and gravy.
And of course a lager kage filled with cream and fruit.
Last picture of  our missionary group: Don and Kayla Hansen, George and Pam Hoge, Jim and Janet Williams, Dorte and Don Taylor.  Notice the fun pink pants Pam and I found on sale.

Neighbors

Hanne and Gregers Knudsen live in the apartment below us.  We met them at Christmas Time when they came up to please ask our guests to stop running on the floor.  We took something to them as an apology and it has turned into a very nice friendship.  She comes line-dancing with Pam Hoge and me.  Because Hoge's are leaving soon they invited us for cake and punch this afternoon.  We had a lovely, hyggelig visit.  Very Danish, just visiting over refreshments for a couple hours.
We enjoyed hearing about their vacations to Croatia and Lapland.

4th of July

Today was typical July 4th weather, hot.  And to celebrate we were invited out to Helle Bernskov's and Lars Frigast Larsen's beautiful new home just outside of Frederiksund on the fjord. They are married but have done as many Danish couples do, kept their own names. In some cases the husband even adds the wife's name to his.

The Temple Missionaries and Temple Presidency were invited for spareribs, hamburgers and hot dogs.

We had this lovely meringue dessert: red white and blue and even flags for the holiday.

Summer

There is a joke that summer in Denmark, it usually on a Wednesday.  Well this year we may get it on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  Today it was 77 degrees but by next week it will be back in the 60's

The temple is one of the few buildings around that has air conditioning.  And it was a super day in the temple as two young men received their own edowments prior to missions.
Joachim is going to Manchester England  along with two sister missionaries called from Denmark  this summer.
He is part of the Paulsen Family which had six sons who, with their families, are a bulwarks of the church here.

Danish Class Adventure

Sadly yesterday was our last Danish Class adventure before the group breaks up. Pam Hoge goes home in a week.  We have been planning to go to Mette's for "frokost" but needed good weather.  Yesterday was perfect, actually warm with just a nice little breeze.
Frokost is lunch consisting of various breads and rolls with all sorts of toppings of meat and cheese, fish, eggs, etc. You can see all the possibilities for accompaniments.
Here we are in Mette's lovely pation/backyard. But for the adventure we walked down to the lake system near the Paulsen's house and took a boat ride all around and through it.
Big "fields" of water lillies everywhere.
Some beautiful, expensive homes and restaurants around the lake....

Lots of people out in canoes and kayaks and boats you could rent.

Beck-Bruun

Beck-Brun is the law firm helping the church figure out some visa problems.  We went down today and it  is a spectacular view and building.

If you look closely you can see the Kristina Statue by Dennis Smith.  We were looking at it from across the water.
A great example of the famous Danish Design in chairs and furnishings.
